One of our other big priorities is going to be training.  I am still basically just learning ROF as are several of you.  We need a Training Officer.  In RB it was Ronin (if I am remembering correctly), however Ronin is unable to fly ROF (I'm a little saddened by that but hope that will change someday).  So we will need a Training Officer for ROF!

Volunteers, suggestions, thoughts, feedback?

I'd be willing to throw my hat in the ring as T.O.  (No intended reference to the U.S. 94th aero squad, *grin*)

I probably have the most hours logged so far in ROF, and online in particular.  I also have a fair bit of knowledge about air combat tactics in general, so I feel that would make me a decent candidate for the position.

However…. I must stipulate…. we're all pretty new to this game.  Lots of guys have been flying longer and better.  For awhile at least, I'll only be one page ahead of whoever I'm practicing with, and until my own skill improves dramatically, well, I won't make a very impressive teacher at first.  But I'm also counting on the fact that none of us are very hardcore kinds of gamers, and that we're mostly in it for the fun, leisure, and social aspects.  In that kind of environment, I feel I can do just fine.

That said, I'd be willing to take a crack at it, and have a few ideas about good starting points already.

OK, I'm going to get back to my honeymoon now.  They've got WiFi at the resort, and the wife brought along her netbook, so I can keep up with the world a little bit ;0)

I think any pilot that is willing to volunteer for TO while on honeymoon deserves the post!!!  What do the rest of you pilots say?

"NEVER volunteer for ANYTHING" is my motto.  Amish as TO works for me! Cool

Alright.  I can say from the flying I've been doing that training for this sim will be more complicated than RB ever was.  These planes have a lot of quirks.  It doesn't take too much time to learn to fly, but to actually become proficient and (dare I say) deadly as an opponent (to the other players, not yourself.  Being deadly to yourself is outrageously easy) takes a lot of practice – even just for one plane type.

We don't all have loads of time, so I think I'll focus on the basics to begin with.

I know not everyone has weighed in on this topic yet.  I hope I'm not leaping forward too soon.

Not at all – this is what I was hoping a TO would do – we need someone to take the bull by the horns here and get us all rolling…

As of yet, I am FAR more deadly to myself than anyone else…
